Stuy's College Office wants to remind seniors about some basic steps you should make sure to complete as you finalize your plans and look ahead to life after Stuy.
1- Make sure to enter your college destination in Naviance. It is easy...
-log in to your account
-go to "colleges I'm applying to"
-scroll down to "college that I am attending" and select the college you'll attend this fall
-click “update”
If you change your plans later in May or June, that's fine, but make sure to indicate the change in Naviance. If you don't enter your college enrollment plan in Naviance, we won't know where to send your final transcript...and colleges will not let you enroll if they don't receive your final high school transcript this summer.
2-PLEASE enter ALL of the admissions decisions you received this year in Naviance as well. It won't take long. I know, I know... it can be difficult to rehash denials. It's sort of like someone asking you to list all of the boys or girls who wouldn't go out with you. But, this information really helps us to guide future classes. Remember, getting denied to a college is not a reflection of your worth or an indicator of whether or not you are going to have a successful future!
3- If you applied for the NYS TAP award and are going to college in the state of New York, you must make sure your TAP application reflects the college you'll attend next fall. You must also enter the student ID number assigned to you by your college. You can do both by using your online account at www.hesc.ny.gov
4- Make sure to accept your financial aid package in your college’s portal if you haven’t already. Make sure to connect with the financial aid office if you have questions about your aid award, the billing process/timeline, or your applicable student loans, etc.
5-Complete any health and housing or other forms your college requests of you, and plan on attending orientation when/if applicable.
6-If you self –reported your ACT or SAT scores, send official scores from ACT or CollegeBoard to the college where you’ll enroll
7- We are sure you've heard that colleges can rescind offers of admission if your performance falters. Has this happened before to Stuy students? Sadly, on a few occasions, yes. Now, please don’t panic. Colleges are going to be flexible with senior grades given the chaos wrought by COVID-19 and the challenges associated with remote learning. No college admissions office wants to rescind offers of admission in July or August, especially after all we’ve been through since March of 2020. Just make sure you staying focused and managing your coursework as best you can. Hang in there...you are almost done!
8-We know that many college fall reopening plans are still in development. If you are thinking of taking a GAP Year for these or any other reasons, contact the admissions office asap to confirm their deferral process. Colleges often have deferral request deadlines, and many will need to know your specific gap-year plan before issuing approval.
Lastly, please do let your assigned college counselor know if you are still struggling with your college enrollment plan, financial aid, etc. We can help you, but only if we know you need assistance.
