Seniors! CUNY General Freshman Admissions Process

SENIORS: This is important information for students applying to the City University of New York system for General Freshman Admission.

If you have already applied to CUNY via Macaulay Honors College, please stop reading and disregard this.  You will automatically be reviewed for general freshman admission for every college listed in your CUNY app.

CUNY often represents the most affordable post-secondary option for many families.  All Stuy students who are seeking financial aid should apply to CUNY as a financial safety precaution.

Students applying to CUNY institutions via the General Freshman application should be aware of the following:

·         Students can apply to up to six CUNY institutions via the CUNY application

·         The CUNY app is only available online at: http://www2.cuny.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/

·         CUNY is TEST-OPTIONAL THIS YEAR; ACT and SAT scores will be considered in the admissions process if submitted.  Test scores can be self –reported but must also be sent officially through the CollegeBoard or ACT websites to CUNY UAPC (code 2950).  Scores can take 6-8 weeks to process so have them sent well before February 1.

·         All application materials must be received by February 1st

·         Apply and submit any required documents asap to receive priority admissions consideration.  Applying closer to the Feb. 1 deadline makes admission more competitive!

  • Some CUNY institutions require or at least will evaluate essays and/or rec letters.  Submitting an essay and/or rec letters is particularly important for students with relatively low gpas.  These materials can be requested/uploaded through the CUNY online application by using the appropriate prompt in the “Supplemental Information” section; upload your essay in “supporting materials”.

If you would like your guidance (school) counselor’s rec letter submitted to CUNYenter your College Counselor’s name and information in the recommendation section.
