SENIORS: Complete your Common App FERPA Waiver on Naviance

SENIORS: Complete your Common App FERPA Waiver on Naviance

This year, Naviance made an unannounced change to the Common App-Naviance matching process which allows students to match their accounts without completing the Common App FERPA Waiver. However, the FERPA waiver must be completed in order for Stuy to be able to send any documents to your colleges this year.

If you already completed the waiver but your Naviance account indicates that it is still incomplete, just email your assigned college counselor; we can then refresh your CA data so that Naviance reflects the completed waiver.

If you have NOT completed the FERPA waiver in Common App, you should do so asap.  See the instructions below.

When completing the CA waiver, remember to choose “I waive my right to review all recommendations and supporting documents”

  • Colleges expect rec letters to be confidential and value confidential recs far more than any that are not.
  • Not agreeing to waive your right can be a red flag to admissions offices.
  • Rec letter writing is entirely voluntary; staff members will not write letters for students who do not agree to maintain confidentiality.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE CA FERPA WAIVER:

  • Log in to your Common App account
  • Click on any of the colleges in your My Colleges list
  • Select “Recommenders and FERPA”
  • Select “Complete Release Authorization”
  • Respond accordingly to the prompts
  • Sign, date, and select “Save and Close”

Please contact your assigned college counselor if you need help or if you have any other questions.
