rFuture Songwriter Project - Workshop & Performance Opportunity - Apply by March 8th!

Mr. Harold Stephan shares that throughout history music and art have informed, influenced, even transformed civilizations. Voices of young artists need to be heard and amplified as their generation is tasked with co-creating a sustainable future out of an uncertain one.

Mr. Stephan also shares he  will need a video of you performing to submit as per the guidelines below. The due date is March 8th, so he will need the video early next week and suggests students record it using your smartphone or a laptop.

Student musical artists from Stuyvesant are invited to create and perform an anthem for our future. Email hstephan@stuy.edu if you are interested in being nominated for this ambitious workshop.

FUTURE SONGWRITING PROJECT

The DOE'S Office of Sustainability is sponsoring the “rFUTURE” songwriting project, a collaborative workshop and performance opportunity for students.  With the guidance of professional songwriters, select NYCDOE high school students will create and perform an anthem focused on sustainability.  Each student musical artist or group will be paired with a professional artist as their mentor and will learn about songwriting, music production, and artistic activism.  On June 5th, students and their music mentor will perform live at an NYC venue!

Teachers are encouraged to nominate student musical artists (soloists or groups of up to five members) and the top five student groups will be selected to participate and perform.  Teachers should be prepared to upload a video recording of students performing and a brief statement from each student as part of the nomination process.  Video submissions need to show students making music, but not necessarily performing an original song.  Spoken word submissions are also being considered.

Nomination Deadline: March 8th
