The Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University invited Dr. Tu and three Stuyvesant students in Sophomore Research class to their “Scientist for the Day” on 2/27/2025. Students visited research labs of Professors Elizabeth Bradshaw, Sabrina Simoes, Caghan Kizil, and Ya Cheng Liao, learned about their research projects, observed zebrafish embryos and action potentials in ex vivo neurons, toured the state-of-the-art research facility, and hold the human brain at the New York Brain Bank under Dr, Andrew Teich’s supervision. Professor Serge Przedborski entertained our students’ questions during lunch at the Faculty Club. Special thanks to our alum Robert (Bob) Jacobs (‘66) for donating this amazing opportunity to our students, and Mr. Diego Segalini (Executive Director of SHSAA) and Mr. Matthew Reals (Taub Institute) coordinated this event. Our students are so intrigued by how basic research in model organisms could advance treatments in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases in humans and are eager to be the next generation of researchers!
