Question of the Week - Winter Break 2019

January Regents & Finals Week—What happens exactly?

This week, Assistant Principal of Organization & Testing Coordinator, Dr. Gary Haber, released the schedule for January Regents & Uniform Finals week. It will take place between January 18-26, 2020.

The final day of classes for the Fall Term is on January 17, 2020.

January 27th is a Student non-attendance day, called “Regents Rating Day”, where no student will be in attendance.

The Spring Term begins on January 28th.

During the days of January 18-26th, students only attend school on the days and times when they are scheduled for either a regents exam and/or uniform final exam. There is no class at any other time and they do not come to school otherwise.

The teachers of the classes administering uniform finals inform students about their final exams. They are also listed on the schedule.

The Program Office emails invitations to students at their stuy.edu email addresses if they are scheduled to take a regents exam. Regents are administered in January to students who either failed a regents in the past and need to retake it; or students wishing to retake a regents to improve their score when they did not achieve “mastery” (above 84) and have spoken to their School Counselor to request this arrangement; or where students need to make up a regents for some other reason. Under all normal circumstances, regents exams are taken at the conclusion of a course, in June. The conclusion of the course is after both the Fall and Spring terms are completed, and in the case of science classes that culminate in a regents exam, it would include a passing grade in both Fall and Spring terms and concluding the number of required labs by NY State to take the regents exam.
