Poet and Urdu translator Adeeba Talukder , Stuy alumna '05, visited the Stuy Library and English classes to talk about her work with the Sufi mystical Islamic poetic tradition (which our colleague Alice Yang recently introduced to the 10th grade Foundations of Literature class), the ghazal tradition, and the way she weaves ideas about mental health into her writing. She spoke to about 150 kids - two classes of Ms. Annie Thoms's "Writing to Create Change" students, two sets of Dr. Emily Moore's sophomores, and a big handful of her Poetry Workshop students. The Stuy Library was amazing as always at creating the perfect environment for a huge reading and the Stuy kids were such a receptive audience. Stuy magic!
