Election Procedures

  • Registration is required to participate in the election. Please do not wait until the last minute.
  • All Parents and Guardians of current Stuyvesant students are eligible to vote (classes of 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). There is no proxy voting permitted. Students, faculty and family are welcome to observe, but not vote, during the election.
  • KEEP THE EVENTBRITE ORDER NUMBER HANDY - YOU WILL NEED IT TO VOTE! When you register for the meeting, you will receive a confirmation from Eventbrite with an “order #” that you need to access the online ballot. Dina Ingram will verify registrants’ voter eligibility, and these ticket numbers are our way to ensure election integrity while protecting voter anonymity.
  • Candidate statements and photos will be shared with registrants prior to the election. Please note, it is NOT permitted to post/email/promote individual candidates through any Stuyvesant-related forums, groups, or websites.
  • A link to the online ballot will be made available in the chat, once the election starts. Again, YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR EVENTBRITE TICKET NUMBER HANDY! You may submit the ballot at any time during election proceedings. Please only vote if you are a legal parent/guardian of a current Stuyvesant student. School administration will validate this, but it will be much easier and faster if only parents/guardians vote, and only vote once.
  • Uncontested elections will be adopted by motion.
  • Contested elections will begin with PA Officers, followed by Member-at-Large and SLT Delegate elections for each class, senior through freshman.
  • Candidates will be given the opportunity to make a brief oral statement. In the interest of conducting a timely vote, each candidate will have 30-45 seconds. At 30 seconds you get a ping; at 45 we need to mute. If a candidate is unable to attend the meeting, they may designate someone to make this statement on their behalf, in compliance with the established time limit.
  • The online ballot will close 15 minutes after the last candidate speaks.
The ballot may be submitted at any time once it is available, until the closing time, which will be announced during the meeting.
  • Preliminary results will be announced at the end of the meeting, with final results shared before the end of the week. Final results will be based on verification of parents/guardians by the school administration.
