As announced, requests for Parent Teacher Conference phone calls open on your Talos account today, Friday, November 4, 2022 at 8am, EST. Requests may be made through Friday, November 11, 2022 at 4pm, EST. There is no other way to make requests except your Talos account.
Please read this email thoroughly. Emails requesting information covered in this document will be referred back to reading these instructions.
Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) will take place via phone calls from teachers on:
Thursday, November 17 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm
and/or
Friday, November 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Parents/Guardians with Talos accounts were emailed their child’s report card on October 31, 2022. We encourage you to use your Jupiter account to view your child’s progress thus far. If you need assistance with Jupiter, please reach out to Eric Lin at elin41@schools.nyc.gov. You also have access report cards on your NYC Schools Account or on Talos by clicking ‘grades’ then ‘MP1’.
Timeframe to request appointments:
BEGIN: Friday, November 4, 2022, 8am, EST
CONCLUDE: Friday, November 11, 2022 at 4pm, EST
- Requests are not first come/first serve.
- Fill out the form anytime between 8am today and Friday, November 11 at 4pm.
- No appointments will be assigned until after the request period ends.
Important Details
- There is one form for each student.
- The last data set entered on Talos PTC form is remembered by the system no matter which parent/guardian fills it out.
- If there are special circumstances in split households which require individual conferences, please reach out to Ms. Ingram at ringram3@schools.nyc.gov to discuss.
- Be sure to indicate if you need interpretation services.
- Conferences with teachers are 5 minutes each and 8 minutes if interpretation is needed.
- Conferences with counselors are 10 minutes each and 12 minutes if interpretation is needed.
- Please be sure to carefully review the phone number you enter on the form as we cannot change it for you. If you make a mistake, correct it and save the form again through 11/11 at 4pm, EST.
- Be available on your appointment date to answer calls that say “unknown”, “private” or “unlisted” on the PTC dates as teachers block private phone numbers.
- Remember: you are making requests, not appointments. The copy of your requests is NOT a confirmation of appointments or a schedule. You will be programmed for as many appointments as possible after all requests are received.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log in to your parent account at talos.stuy.edu (this form is not available on student accounts)
- If you encounter difficulty accessing your parent account, or you do not have one, please contact Ms. Ingram at ringram3@schools.nyc.gov
- If you have more than one child at Stuyvesant, you MUST go to the student dashboard you wish to make the appointments for and FIRST choose the student.
- Click the “PTC” button beside your student’s photo. (it is GREEN and says PTC) Note: some students do not have photos on Talos - the green PTC button is beside the student name. Note: you will NOT see this button until 8am on your Talos account. Do not email us indicating the button is not there. It will be there at 8am on November 4, 2022.
- Fill out all fields in the form.
- Fill out your form ranking the teachers in the order which you would hope to hear from most. (i.e. Choice 1 is the teacher you most wish to speak with)
- Click the “SAVE” button. A Green box will appear in the upper right corner of the screen with a checkmark and the word “saved”.
- You will always see what you entered on that page once it’s saved. If your form is blank the next time you log in, the “save” button was not clicked.
- You will receive an email with a copy of your requests to the email address logged in on Talos at the time the requests were made.
- If a second parent/guardian makes changes, the form will update and a copy sent to that parent. For this reason, only ONE parent should fill out the form on Talos.
Receiving appointments & further details
You will be notified on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, via email with a schedule of which teachers will phone you, along with the date and time (this information is not displayed in your Talos account).
- IMPORTANT: You may not be scheduled for ALL your requests – this is NOT an error. The number of teachers that parents will speak to is dependent upon the number of parents that sign up and how many teachers they are interested in speaking to as well as how many appointments fit into a teacher’s schedule that day for the allotted time.
- Parents/Guardians of students in grade 12 will be prioritized to see College Counselors.
- Parents/Guardians in all grades (9-12) may opt to see a School Counselor. Priority will be given to grades 9 and 10.
- Changes cannot be made once appointments are distributed.
- If you do not receive an appointment with teachers/counselors you ranked, you may reach out to the teacher/counselor with your concerns/questions keeping in mind that your response will be delayed at this busy time.
