Along with updates from Principal Yu, the Office of Family Engagement and the PA Board, you’ll hear from YTT and Matriculate, non-profit organizations that provide FREE college application support.

Our speakers will be JC Salinas (YTT) and Karen Du (Matriculate):

Karen Du is the High School Fellow Recruitment Manager at Matriculate. She scouts out and thinks of ways to reach high school students from all corners of the U.S. who are eligible for our free college advising program - giving them a valuable resource to attend best-fit colleges. She was born and raised in Queens, New York, and have been there her whole life. She attended college at CUNY Hunter College under the Macaulay Honors program and got a Master's degree in bilingual education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She was a dual language public school teacher in Queens for eight years before stepping into the education non-profit space to support even more students. Working with students is her passion!

Juan Carlos Salinas is currently the Executive Director at La Unidad Latina Foundation and the Director of College Access at the New Group. Juan Carlos is the founder of the Y Tu Tambien (YTT), the college access program of the LUL Foundation, which unites alumni from across the Ivy League to help students in need gain acceptance into their desired colleges and provides school and career exploration workshops. He is the current Chair and founding member of the Yale Latino Alumni Association of the Tri State Area, and a founding board member of the Inter- Ivy League Alumni Council. JC is a strong proponent of College Access for all, regardless of any student’s background.

Y Tu También (YTT) strives to increase access to higher education for NYC high school minority and first-generation students, but we are not exclusive to any one group or demographic. We embrace the model of a public library, a free resource to anyone seeking knowledge on the college application process. We believe that students thrive in a community setting, especially when they interact with students from NYC with different backgrounds.

YTT aims to help each student find the school that is the right match for their interests, while encouraging them to strive for the best college and universities. It is key to our mission that all of our programs are offered at no costs to students and their families. YTT was founded by Yale Alum, Juan Carlos (JC) Salinas, as a Yale Day of Service Project.
