PA General Meeting - May 21, 2019 - Special Guest, Lea Abrams - "Mind Always Matters - Success for the Whole Child"

The next General Membership Meeting of the Parent’s Association will take place on Tuesday, May 21st at 7pm. There will be a special presentation: Mind Always Matters – Success for the Whole Child by Lea Abrams. Simultaneous translation will be provided in Mandarin.

Lea Abrams has been an educator, counselor, consultant and trainer for over forty years. She began her career as a health educator writing grants for patient education resource centers in California, and then worked as an educator for Planned Parenthood developing and implementing programs in middle and high schools. She has served as an Early Childhood School Director, a Literacy and Special Education Specialist, a Curriculum Developer and Program Coordinator and as a classroom teacher. She has provided professional development to educators interested in implementing mindful teaching strategies in order to foster academic growth. Ms. Abrams has worked throughout public and private elementary, middle and high schools in New York City and Long Island.

 

Ms. Abrams received the Teacher of the Future award from the National Association of Independent Schools for her work in mindful education. She holds a Masters in Education and is a certified psychotherapist. Ms. Abrams is engaged in a program for Transformational Educational Leadership which helps to train school leaders in the areas of mindfulness, social-emotional learning and equity.

Ms. Abrams currently teaches at The Spence School and serves as a Consultant for Teaching and Learning at Peconic Community School.
