Assistant Principal Ms. Casey Pedrick will start the informational session with an overview of the resources available to students at Stuy. Then she will be joined by clinical psychologists Dr. Terri Bacow, Dr. Doris Chang and Dr. Jonathan Kaplan for a presentation and Q&A. Drawing from their expertise, they will offer suggestions on overcoming anxiety and stress for teenagers and their parents.
Dr. Terri Bacow is a widely known expert in cognitive behavioral therapy, an evidence-based therapy approach. A Brown and Boston University graduate, she sees clients in her private practice on the Upper West Side where she specializes in treating anxiety and mood disorders. She’s the author of Goodbye, Anxiety: A Guided Journal for Overcoming Worry.
Dr. Doris Chang is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the NYU Silver School of Social Work. She completed her doctoral training at UCLA and postdoctoral training at the Department of Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School. Her research seeks to advance the well-being of racial and ethnic communities with a focus on Asian Americans.
As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Jonathan Kaplan serves as the Director of the SoHo CBT + Mindfulness Center. For over 25 years, he’s provided cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. He has written books on mindfulness and led workshops at K-12 schools throughout NYC. He also is the proud parent of a junior at Stuy.
