Mr. Harold Stephan shares that on March 25, 2023, recording artist, author and music educator Mike Errico visited the All-City Modern Music Project through a partnership with the NY Chapter of The Recording Academy to speak with students about the creative process and the wisdom of separating songwriting from the marketplace. Songwriting and the artistic process are under the artist's control, while the vicissitudes of the marketplace are not. If the artist sticks to their process, commercial success will happen organically when the songwriting and the marketplace are in alignment. Mike suggests "morning pages", or freeform writing for at least 10 minutes each day, as part of the artist's journey. He details this process in his recently published book, Music, Lyrics, and Life: A Field Guide for the Advancing Songwriter.
