NYC History students take a Harlem Walking Tour

Mr. Sandlert's NYC History class recently went on a walking tour exploring the history of Harlem going back to the Dutch settlement in 1658 through the Harlem Renaissance and the 1960s. Highlights included visits to Alexander Hamilton’s house, Striver’s Row, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (where students examined the exhibit “Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration”), Sylvia’s Soul food eatery, the Apollo Theater and Grant’s Tomb. For many students it was their first trip to Harlem and it was unforgettable! See a full size photo collage here.
