Beginning May 20, the DOE in collaboration with the MTA is launching its Extra Credit program, a new initiative designed to encourage MetroCard use among high school students. High school students who swipe their MetroCards will be entered to win a Meta Quest 2; each swipe is an entry to win the prize.
The MTA will post winning serial numbers on mta.info/extracredit each week beginning May 20. The DOE will cross-reference the winning student MetroCard serial numbers to student IDs to identify and announce the winners to their respective schools. For privacy considerations, no student information will be shared with the MTA; the MTA only has access to the winning serial numbers.
