Ms. Banfield's Honors Biology class celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

Ms. Shangaza Banfield shares some of the ways her Honors Biology class is celebrating National Hispanic History Month (Sept 15th - October 15th).

"To honor the Latinx community, culture, and contributions Modern Biology students are focused on Latinx Scientists from Mexico! At the beginning of the week, students made and hung banners of papel picado in the 7th floor atrium. Later in the week Honors Biology students learned about four Mexican scientists through posters displayed in the atrium... Ynes Mexia (Botanist), Stephen Baca (Etymologist), Luis Miramontes(Chemist) and Prof. Susana Lopez Charreton (Virologist). Each poster highlights each scientists' journey and provides an opportunity for each student to reflect on their personal academic journey while stepping into each scientists' shoes by solving problems using the scientific method.

Special thanks to School Counselor, Angel Colon for being a consultant for this exhibit."

The exhibit will be on display until October 15th and we invite all to learn about these four giants in the science community!
