In Mr. Robert Sandler’s Jewish History class this past week, they had Maria Ntourlia from Stand with Us come and give a talk on the history of the United Nations’ fraught relationship with Israel. Mr. Sandler contributes that the next day she talked about the controversy surrounding the Boycott Divestment, Sanctions Movement, which she called the “New War Against Israel.” For an alternative perspective we had Shifra Sered, a member of J Street, a liberal Washington lobby that provides an alternative view to AIPAC come to class. Shifra’s family history in Jerusalem goes back to before Herzl’s publication of the Jewish State in 1896. She explained how J Street advocates for a pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian, pro peace agenda.
