Social Studies teacher, Mr. Robert Sandler shares that he had 58 students from NYC History and AP U.S. History classes attend after school, a virtual tour with educators from the New-York Historical Society to learn about the experiences of LGBTQ+ activists in New York City. Students explored how one's intersectional identities of race, class, gender, and sexuality impacted their lives and political advocacy.
They also examined artifacts from the Stonewall Uprising, Keith Haring, Pauli Murray, Marsha P Johnson & Sylvia Rivera, Christine Jorgenson, the Queer Liberation March, and the museum's collection of hundreds of pride buttons. It was an enlightening experience! Check out screenshots! (photos courtesy of Mr. Sandler)
