Mr. Sandler also had journalist, Joseph Alexiou come to NYC History on Thursday, March 14th, to discuss his book on the history of the Gowanus Canal. He shares that Mr. Alexiou traced the neighborhood’s history back to the Dutch period through its heyday as a major industrial waterway in the 1920s to its demise in the post WWII era.
