Last week, Social Studies teacher, Mr. Robert Sandler took 10 Stuy students to the Gilder Lehrman Gala at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. GL was honoring legendary documentary film maker Ken Burns and philanthropist Kenneth Chennault. Two of Mr. Sandler's former students and National History Day winners, Eliza Spinna and Claire Liu attended since their film on “LBJ & the Civil Rights Act of 1964” was featured as an example of student filmmaking in the Ken Burns style! Seniors, Agatha Nyarko and Kenny Wong introduced the honorees. The Gala raised millions of dollars for the institute and American History. They also had Mr. Sandler and another former Gilder Lehrman Teacher of the Year stand for applause in recognition for all their work in the field of history. It was a spectacular night! Congratulations to all! (photos courtesy of Mr. Sander)
