Mr. Citron Teaches a Summer Research Class Summer 2019

Mr. Jerry Citron taught a Summer Research Program during July! Students conducted water, air, and soil experiments using the Hudson River and Battery Park during the first two-week cycle. During the second cycle, Biotech and Microbio activities and experiments were explored. Students also investigated alternative energy technologies. In some photos, the students examining poster boards from Mr. Citron's classes on their way to Battery Park as well as caring for the Rooftop Garden.

Mr. Citron explains the photos of the students on the North Lawn in Battery Park City involved a carbon sequestration assessment, where students compared the amounts of carbon stored by different tree species, measured the diameters and height using clinometers and from allometric relationships calculated the carbon content of the trees. The purpose of the activity was to get students thinking of ways and possible research to find ways to mitigate carbon in the atm.

The photos involving growing different types of bacillus bacteria were used to see what are the best conditions for growth and media. Hoping to foster microbiological research. (photos courtesy of Mr. Citron)
