Congratulations to the mathematical modeling team of Andrew Zhang, Daniel Li, Ethan Tran, and Asad Patwekar for being named one of two Outstanding teams in the US Regional of the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IM²C)! This invitation-only event began with the nearly 300 US-based teams that successfully competed in the High School Mathematical Competition in Modeling (HiMCM), and now their mathematical analysis of the management and conservation of rhinoceros populations will move on to the international round of judging, where they will compete against the top teams from all around the world.

In addition, the team of Jackson Hayes, Murphy Lin, Alex Wang, and Simon Zhu earned a Finalist designation, putting them in the top 5 of the US Regional.

Photo: Visualization of conservation strategies from the paper of Li, Tran, Patwekar, and Zhang

Congratulations to these two teams, and to the team of Leah Riegel, Maya Agge, Zachary Aaron, and Kaitlyn Wu, and team of Audrey Jing, Cynthia Wen, Armistead Williams, and Kiran Yesley, for qualifying for this invitation-only competition!

For more information about mathematical modeling opportunities, see Mr. Honner in the math department.
