Little Amal Walks NYC -- attend an event through 10/2/2022

She is here!  Little Amal Walks NYC and is coming our neighborhoods over the next few weeks. St. Anne's Warehouse and the producers of The Walk bring this breathtaking event to engage public-school students and their communities with her.  Specific Event Details below.

New York welcomes Little Amal, a 14-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child – and an international symbol of human rights – who comes to New York City Sept 14 - Oct 2. Over 17 days and 55 events, Little Amal visits all five boroughs where artists, civic leaders, cultural institutions, and immigrant community organizations engage New Yorkers with events of welcome in a massive, free, public art engagement produced by St. Ann’s  Warehouse and The Walk Productions.

EVENT #3: "SOUNDS OF HARLEM" 

Amal is led through the streets of Harlem, drawn by the joyful vibration of a second line processional. She is welcomed by the drumming students of the Harlem School of the Arts and The Kotchegna Dance Company who together introduce her to the unforgettable pulse of this vibrant community. In partnership with National Black Theatre.

In Bryant Park Amal is welcomed to a special performance of The Creation by James Weldon Johnson, celebrating an art movement by which NYC is known all over the world: the Harlem Renaissance. Created by the Classical Theater of Harlem.

EVENT #5: "FIESTA AT THE CLEMENTE" 

Amal is invited to party in the Clemente Soto Vélez Center.  To her surprise she meets puppets friends created by Teatro SEA. Together they celebrate the traditions and cultures of this special place.

EVENT #6: "KINDNESS IS A JOURNEY" 

Amal finds that she isn’t the only little girl lost in the big city. With her new friend she walks through the streets of the East Village looking for shelter.  On their journey they will try to answer the biggest of all questions: how to make the world a better place? A processional installation created with La Mama and NYU (New York University).
