IMPORTANT INFO FOR CUNY & MACAULAY HONORS APPLICANTS

The CUNY system remains one of the biggest bargains in higher education, and is often the most affordable college option for many families.  CUNY’s prestigious Macaulay Honors College program presents a host of perks to its students.

All NYCDOE students can apply to CUNY for free between October 21 and November 15.  DO NOT MISS THIS WINDOW…CUNY FEE WAIVERS FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE AT ALL AFTER THIS PERIOD.

Students applying to CUNY colleges should note the following important information that often confuses applicants:

-Macaulay Honors College is NOT a stand -alone institution; Macaulay programs are available at out of most of the four- year universities in the CUNY system…Hunter College, Baruch College, City College, etc. You must select a home campus when applying to Macaulay.

-you CANNOT apply to CUNY via the Common Application.  You can only apply via the CUNY website.

-students who apply to Macaulay will also automatically be reviewed for general freshman admission for each CUNY college in the application (you can enter up to six choices)

-applicants will only be considered for the Macaulay program for one campus choice Choose wisely!

-Your transcript will automatically be sent to CUNY for Macaulay and the general CUNY application as a result of your entering your OSIS number in your application

-CUNY is test-optional.  If you would like to share your scores, you must have scores sent officially to CUNY UAPC (code 2950) via the ACT or CollegeBoard websites.  Do not send scores to individual CUNY colleges or to Macaulay.  Remember also that scores sent to CUNY can take up to six weeks to process.

-Macaulay requires two academic letters of rec by 11/28.  Students completing the Macaulay application must enter two academic recommenders' email addresses where prompted within the application.  Teachers/counselors will then receive an email through which they may submit their letter.  Recs can be sent for the general CUNY application as well: students just need to enter recommender email addresses in the same fashion as above where prompted in the general freshman CUNY application

-Students must enter their college counselor's email rather than their school (guidance) counselor's if they want to use their school counselor’s letter for CUNY admission.

-Please note the November 15 deadline for Macaulay is a hard deadline for students; academic recs for Macaulay must be submitted by November 28. That is also a hard deadline.

-financial aid applicants will eventually need to include each CUNY campus in the FAFSA, although this can’t be done until the FAFSA is available in December
