Important Back to School Information

September 11, 2021

Dear Stuyvesant Community,

We are thrilled to welcome students back to the school building on Monday, September 13, 2021, for the first day of the 2021-2022 school year. Please make sure to carefully read the following important reminders and To Do’s in preparation for school.

All students will begin school at 8:30am every day next week (9/13 - 9/17) - see the week’s bell schedule (the bell schedule is only for next week). Please note that schools will be closed on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in observance of Yom Kippur.

Additionally, the NYC Test & Trace and the NYC Department of Health are conducting free vaccinations at Stuyvesant this week for students, families and staff ages 12 and up. Minors need consent forms to be vaccinated. Please read about this opportunity here.

Night Before - Be sure to complete the following tasks the night before school

  • Check Talos for your updated schedule, room assignments and teacher names (if possible, bring a print out with you on the first day of school).
  • Pay close attention to your Homeroom room number as it is not listed on your Talos schedule. View it at this link.
  • Register your device to access the school WiFi if you plan to use a device at school or show your NYC DOE Health screening on your device -- follow the steps in your Talos account using the “Argus” feature. You must enter the MAC address by using these instructions
  • If you have a DOE Student Account, you will use it to sign into the Health Screening. You can get your user ID and/or reset your password at this site.
  • Please review the Fall Term Calendar, which is also available on the school website.
  • The building has fresh air vents open/windows for air circulation. Plan and dress accordingly by wearing layers. (i.e. wear a light layer but have a sweater/sweatshirt available).

Upon Arrival - School doors will open at 7:45am

  • Complete the Health screening -- the screening will need to be shown before entering the building
  • Wear your mask at all times (NOTE: Masks will be available at the entrance) and keep socially distanced to the extent possible at all times.
  • Sanitize your hands regularly using the sanitizer dispensers located throughout the building
  • Use the following entrances based on your grade:
    • Freshmen & Sophomores: 2nd Floor Bridge Doors at West & Chambers
    • Juniors & Seniors: North Doors at Chambers & Pier 25

*Staff will direct students to the appropriate entrances as necessary

  • Scan your student ID upon entering the building (NOTE: Freshmen will show either a printed copy of their schedule from Talos or show their Talos page on their phones until they receive their ID).

During School

  • Students will report to their homeroom classroom by 8:30am. Homeroom will be 30 minutes each day. Official class room numbers are listed on the school website under the ‘Students’ tab at this link. Students will engage in community building activities with their classmates led by their homeroom teacher. Underclassmen will meet with Big Sibs. All eligible students will receive their MetroCards and student IDs will also be distributed.
  • LIRR student discounts forms are found on the school website at www.stuy.edu (only applicable for students who use the LIRR)
  • Free breakfast (7:30 - 9:30am) and lunch (4th - 8th periods) will be served in the Cafeteria (see menu) on the 5th floor. Students should follow all safety guidelines including using sanitation wipes to clean their area of the table and chair before and after eating, take off their mask only when eating, and maintain 3 feet physical distance. Students who prefer to not eat lunch from the Cafeteria are allowed to leave the building during their lunch period (and free period). Please note, students must scan out when they leave and scan back in when they return.
  • Students will be permitted to leave the building during lunch and free periods. Lunch may be eaten in the 5th floor cafeteria or outside the building. Students may take grab-and-go lunches to exit the building. Students who exit the building during their lunch or free periods may only re-enter the building 10 minutes prior to the next period’s beginning bell.
  • Random COVID-19 testing of 10% of unvaccinated students will occur bi-weekly (NOTE: Families may consent to COVID-tested for unvaccinated students in their NYCSA accounts. Students who are vaccinated are not tested. Families may upload proof of vaccination in the NYCSA account. For assistance with the NYCSA account, please contact Ms. Ingram at ringram3@schools.nyc.gov).
  • Keep socially distanced to the extent possible at all times.

After School

  • All students will exit the building using the 2nd floor bridge.
  • PSAL activities and teams/practices are ongoing and take place after school.
  • Extra-curricular clubs and activities will start at the end of September after the Club/Pub Fair takes place later this month.
  • Use the hand sanitizer dispensers located throughout the building as you exit.

We are excited to see all of you and want to make sure you have a safe and productive school year.

Sincerely,

Stuyvesant High School
