How to Connect to Colleges During Coronavirus Times

Our College Office has received many questions from students and parents about how best to research and connect with colleges during the coronavirus outbreak.  Traditional methods like visiting campus, going to college fairs or live info sessions in NYC, etc. are no longer options for the spring and potentially longer.

So what can you do instead?

Fortunately, colleges across the US are rapidly building upon and creating methods for prospective students to explore and connect with their institution through virtual means.  Virtual tours, online information sessions, webinars, chat sessions with admissions counselors and other staff, social media opportunities, are some of the many possibilities.

We copied information from the recent bulletins of several very different institutions below to show you how the ways in which colleges are responding.

You’ll find these kinds of opportunities posted on the admissions pages of each institution’s website.  If you join the mailing list/ request information by signing up on the college’s website you’ll be emailed directly about virtual events happening this spring and beyond…and, when their campuses eventually open up to visitors and live admissions events are running once again.  We know we’re all looking forward to that day!

We hope this information proves helpful in the meantime.  Please contact your college counselor if you have questions or need assistance.

Stay well!

From Dartmouth College- In the meantime, there are many ways for you and your students to learn about Dartmouth virtually. Take a virtual tour, learn about life at the College as experienced by our student bloggers, read the most recent addition of 3D Magazine, or follow us on social media.

From Rhodes College- How to Visit:  Rhodes is currently closed to visitors until at least May.  We are doing our best to recreate campus and community experiences virtually.  Please share our Virtual Visit webpage with your students, both admitted and still looking.  In one page, they can watch student panels, see images of campus, learn more about Memphis, and schedule their own personal visit.  We are offering individual conversations with students, faculty, student life staff, coaches and admission counselors using Zoom.

From Washington University in St. Louis- There will be a Virtual WashU Information Session for students to learn more about the admissions process, our academic programs, our campus community, and financial aid and scholarships. There will also be plenty of time for students to ask questions!
