Antonio Meucci is best known for his invention of the telephone. However, before his groundbreaking invention he was a student at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. General Giuseppe Garibaldi is known as one of the key players in the unification of Italy. The friendship between Meucci and Garibaldi may have begun by happenstance but what a friendship it was.
The upcoming winter holidays and winter season often re-ignites a connection with family and friends. It is a time to slow down a bit and make a point of connecting with those nearest and dearest to us. In honor of the Garibaldi and Meucci friendship, Meucci’s years as an artist, and the upcoming winter season, the
Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Garibaldi-Meucci Holiday High School Art Contest.
Students are invited to create an original cover for a holiday card that best represents their interpretation of a winter holiday and/or season. All artworks will be part of a special exhibit at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum that will run from mid-December to mid-January. The opening of this special exhibit will take place during our annual tree lighting on December 15, 2022.
Prizes will be awarded to individuals with the best design.
One 1st prize winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card
One 2nd prize winner will receive a $75 Visa gift card
One 3rd prize winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card
The judges will be looking for:
n creativity and originality
n quality of artwork
n interpretation of the subject matter/theme
