As part of our Mr. Sandker’s Global History curriculum, students visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s blockbuster Raphael exhibition, building on our study of Raphael, Michelangelo, Pope Julius II, and the artistic achievements of Renaissance Italy. Students analyzed selected works, created sketches, and connected the artwork to themes discussed in class.

Students also explored the museum’s African and Mesoamerican collections, applying their knowledge of the civilizations studied throughout the year. They examined how artwork reflected religious beliefs, political authority, social structures, and cultural values. Following the visit, students worked in groups to create and present Museum Scrapbook Projects highlighting pieces that stood out to them and explaining their historical significance and artistic impact. See a full size photo collage here.
