Four teams of Stuyvesant’s mathematical modelers have been invited to compete in the US Regional of the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC)! Teams qualify for this competition by finishing in the top 20% word-wide in the High School Mathematical Competition in Modeling (HiMCM), and for the first time ever Stuyvesant has four teams earning that distinction!
Congratulations to the team of Audrey Jing, Kiran Yesley, Cynthia Wen, and Armistead Williams for being named “Finalist” for their mathematical overhaul of first-responder protocols.
Two additional teams – Daniel Li, Asad Patwekar, Ethan Tran, and Andrew Zhang; and Jackson Hayes, Murphy Lin, Alex Wang, and Simon Zhu – earned “Meritorious” on the same problem. And the team of Zachary Aaron, Maya Agge, Leah Riegel, and Kaitlyn Wu earned a “Meritorious” designation for their analysis of the environmental and economic impact of so-called “mega sporting events” like the Super Bowl and the World Cup.
Three additional teams of mathematical modelers (Liz Burnell, Sophia DeGregorio, Narnia Poddar, and Michael Shakhnovich; Muhil Aktar, Evan Chen, Syed Rahman, and Jason Zhang; and Ethan Go, Jayden Kim; Ryan Kim; and Cyrus Yau) earned “Honorable Mention” in the 2025 HiMCM. And in Stuyvesant’s first ever entry in the MidMCM, the all-9th-grade team of first-time modelers Abby Brown, Leo Goelman, Zahra Kumar, and Chanie Yang Zhao also earned “Honorable Mention”!
Congratulations to all of Stuyvesant’s mathematical modelers for an incredible showing in this year’s HiMCM and MidMCM! To learn more about mathematical modeling at Stuy, see Mr. Honner in the mathematics department.
