Enter the HeARTwork Against Hate Contest by 3/4/2022!

Assistant Principal, Ms. Francesca McAuliffe shares HeARTwork Against Hate Contest - a creative initiative for New York City youth launched by the Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes in September 2020.

It is important to support young New Yorkers at a time of great stress resulting from the combination of a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, school changes, scapegoating, and issues of systemic racism that have come to the fore. Originally inspired by OCA-NY Asian Pacific American Advocates' annual Hate Crime Prevention Art Project, HeARTwork Against Hate provides another opportunity and platform for young New Yorkers to use artistic expression as an outlet.

All New Yorkers have a role in showing respect and standing up for others. Through HeARTwork Against Hate, the City’s youth can take a stand against all forms of bias, discrimination, and hate and use their creativity to communicate the positive values that make NYC great.

2020 HeARTwork Against Hate Contest

Prizes

Grades 6-8 and 9-12

1. First Place: $500
2. Second Place: $250
3. Third Place: $100
4. Honorable Mentions (5): $50

Eligibility and Rules

• Artwork must be related to the theme: “HeARTwork Against Hate.”
• Participants must be between grades 3-12 and reside in New York City.
• All artwork must be original.
• All art forms are eligible, including drawing, collages, paintings, poetry, photography, sculpture, poetry, computer graphics, 3D Art, etc.
• All submissions (including high resolution images of all artwork) must be received electronically by OPHC@cityhall.nyc.gov by no later than 5 p.m. on March 4, 2022.
