The Environmental Club brings you the Eco-Fact of the Week for January 4-8, 2021!
Although the recent inventions of bio-digestible items are remarkable, the truth is that most bioplastics don’t break down in the loose environment. The bioplastics are made from materials such as renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, straw, woodchips, sawdust, recycled food waste and etc. Although these are all compostable, once they are processed they become harder to degrade. Most bioplastics cannot be broken down in home composts, landfills but require commercial composting facilities. Although bioplastics can contribute to decrease in carbon-footprints and perseverance of non-renewable energy, it may not be the perfect solution for the issue of material wastes. On the other hand, alternative materials such as bamboo are rising on demands. The items such as bamboo toothbrush, bamboo toilet papers and bamboo notebooks are circulated in the market. Help to preserve our resources and properly sort your trash.
