The Environmental Club presents the Eco-Fact of the Week for Feburary 8 throuugh 12, 2021!
Almost 75% of fishes in the Nile River contain microplastics inside of them. The Sky Team and Dr. Farhan Khan collected samples of common fishes and examined them. They saw that the plastics in the fishes were especially severe and could even be seen with the naked eye. Even more surprising, the entirety of the Nile River has been polluted, all the way from start to end. The microplastics in the fish could affect their diet, behavior, and growth, ultimately affecting the fish population in the Nile River. The microplastics also attract toxins, increasing the danger of pollutants and pesticides in the fishes and those that eat them. The plastic pollution in this freshwater river is especially notable because the Nile River is used as tourism, water source, or food and the huge plastic pollution will dangerously affect those who depend on the Nile River. So make sure to help preserve our resources and properly sort your trash!
