Dr. Winkel shares pieces his students were asked and advised in assignment 2 to record the four parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) of a J.S. Bach Chorale (BWV 300) into four different tracks, in sync with themselves. This is a challenging task and will strongly improve their musical skills.
First, the students had to play each part correctly in terms of pitches and rhythm to an underlying beat. Second, their playing had to be very precise to match up (synchronize) the different parts with each other.
Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the great masters of classical music especially known for his mastery of counterpoint. This was a welcome opportunity to expose the students to his tremendous work by having them play and record all four parts of this work. In class they would only play one part. For reference, I included a recording of this choral on an "electronic" pipe organ, how I presume Bach may have envisioned it.
The newest assignment (#4) is a larger scale project of recording and synchronizing all the parts of an extended concert band music piece. It requires the students to work together in groups using the collaboration option in Soundtrap.
