Congratulations to the Math Team!!!

Mr. Stanislav Kats shares that the MAA (Mathematical Association of America) released a list of qualifiers for the USAJMO (United States of America Junior Math Olympiad) and USAMO (United States of America Junior Math Olympiad).

Congratulations to Benjamin Gallai (10th grade) and Rishabh Das (9th grade), who are USAJMO Qualifiers!

This is up from one qualifier last year.

Congratulations to Stuyvesant’s five USAMO Qualifiers: Milan Haiman (12th grade), Robin Han (12th grade), Kimi Sun (11th grade), Akash Das (11th grade) and Ethan Joo (10th grade)!This is up from four qualifiers last year,  and Stuyvesant is the only high school in the city with any USAMO Qualifiers.

Wishing all the best to our students at the Olympiad to be held on April 17th and 18th.

Saturday, April 6th , the NYC Math Team competed in the NYSML (New York State Math League) Competition, NY's Math State Tournament. The NYC Math Team brought 5 teams of students. Of the 75 students selected by the NYC Math Team to participate, 37 were from Stuyvesant. 

Our top team, "Tin Man" won 1st place beating out Bergen County's A team. Stuyvesant students accounted for 14 of the 15 members of the winning team! Congratulations to Akash Das (11th grade), Rishabh Das (9th grade), Benjamin Gallai (10th grade), Aidan Griffin (12th grade), Milan Haiman (12th grade), Robin Han (12th grade), Ethan Joo (10th grade), Matthew Kendall (12th grade), Nancy Kuang (11th grade), Srinath Mahankali (10th grade), Kimi Sun (11th grade), Mario Tutuncu-Macias (10th grade), Max Vaysburd (10th grade) and Hanna Yang (12th grade). 

Individually, seven NYC students, all from "Tin Man" and all from Stuyvesant, qualified for the tiebreakers with a 10/10: Akash Das, Milan Haiman, Robin Han, Ethan Joo, Matthew Kendall, Mario Tutuncu-Macias, and Max Vaysburd.

Congratulations to Ethan Joo, who won the tiebreakers to win the competition. This is now the second year in a row that a Stuyvesant student has won the event. As the winner, he received the Curt Boddie Award. The other six students tied for 3rd place.

Congratulations to Matthew Kendall and Milan Haiman received the Berman-Rockow Award for leadership and dedication to the NYC Math Team. Bravo and Congratulations to all! (photos courtesy of Mr. Kats)
