The Librarians Ms. McGregor, Mr. Bowlin, and Mr. Cheng presented this prize to her during Dr. Kim's English class so they could recognize and celebrate her with her peers. (Ms. Kennedy had to stay in the Library with other students, but she was a part of selecting Sulakshana for this honor, as well!)

Here are a few words that were said during the presentation to highlight why Sulakshana was selected:
"Stuy Librarians have the privilege of awarding a Book Prize to a Junior each year on behalf of the Aurelian Honor Society of Yale University. The prize goes to a student that we feel embodies high character, leadership, and scholarship. This year’s prize is the book On Freedom by Timothy Snyder, a study of the 'habits of mind that will allow us to design a government in which we and future generations can flourish.' We are here to honor Sulakshana Reddy today with this prize.

Sulakshana is a curious, ethical, and open-minded student who is always interested in learning and sharing her learning with others. In the Library, we began to know Sulakshana since early in her freshman year, when she almost immediately became what we affectionately refer to as a 'library regular'. Not only could she be seen in the library regularly completing her assignments for classes, but also reading for pleasure and engaging with peers and adults in conversation. Her approachability and enthusiasm lift our spirits and create connections with others whether talking about the latest Brandon Sanderson novel or working together on a tricky jigsaw puzzle. I recently learned that when she visits family in other cities, she often comes home with a membership card from that city’s public library. She takes the time to read, to learn, to engage, and to be in community with others. We appreciate that even these small gestures and habits are challenging with the high pressure of succeeding at Stuyvesant, but these are exactly the attitudes and characteristics that make our community kinder, stronger, and more hopeful and make Sulakshana an ideal recipient of this year’s Yale Aurelian Honor Society Book Prize. Congratulations to Sulakshana!"

We are proud of Sulakshana and happy we had a chance to share our appreciation with her and her peers today.
