Congratulations to Stuyvesant's Chess team on their fantastic standings in the national grade-level championships in Orlando last weekend!
Coach, Mr. Bill Boericke shares that in a clear sign of good things to come, the Stuyvesant Freshmen Team, Eugene Yoo, Ben Medina and Ryan Lee came in 2nd in the country. In the individual standings, Ben Medina tied for 8th in the nation in the 9th grade division.
Sophomores Adam Avnet, Ryan Chen, Alison Chan and Daniel Fridlyand took 5th place in the nation in the 10th grade division.
Juniors Justin Chen, Jun Yan Li and Cheng Chen placed 2nd in the nation in the 11th grade division. In the individual standings, Team Captain Justin Chen placed 5th.
Although Stuy was not able to field a 12th grade team this year, Arjun Rai distinguished himself in the 12th grade individual standings by tying for 6th place.
We are looking forward to the team nationals in Columbus, Ohio this Spring. It is looking like Stuyvesant will once again be a force in the national chess scene!
