Mr. Eric Barry shares congratulations to the Girls Chess Team for dominating the under-16 category at the All Girls National Chess Championships in Chicago last weekend! The team brought back Stuyvesant’s first championship in the under-16 category. 9th graders Alexandra Lussie and Hema Vikas tied for 3rd with 4.5 wins, while 9th grader Simone Morden and 10th grader Rachel Prizant tied for 14th place, contributing 3.5 wins to the winning effort. 10th grader Suhana Kumar won the trophy for best under-1300 player and newcomer Sophie Zhao was the best unrated player in the tournament. The future is bright for girls chess at Stuyvesant. Special thanks to the Alumni Association for helping with the travel expenses and the Parents Association for covering registration fees.
