Congrats Stuy Chess! 1st Place at Greater NY Scholastic Chess Championship & Captain Justin Chen - 1st & UNDEFEATED

Coach Bill Boericke weekend the Stuyvesant Chess Team competed in the biggest regional tournament, the Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championship. Justin Chen (senior), Ryan Chen (junior), Charles Hua (freshman), and Daniel Fridlyand (junior) led Stuyvesant to 1st place in the Team standings with a total score of 16.5 points over arch rivals Jericho High School (16 points) and Columbia Grammar and Prep (12.5 points).

Team Captain Justin Chen took 1st place in the individual standings with a score of 6-0, and was the only player to go undefeated in the tournament.

BRAVO!

It takes about three weeks for online tournament results to be declared official because all of the games have to be submitted for computer review to ensure that no players were assisted by computer programs, but all of our players performed within expectations, given their ratings (not to mention their high degree of integrity!), so we don't expect that there will be any problems.
