Coach Bill Boeicke shares congratulations to the Stuyvesant Chess Team!
Due to DOE travel restrictions on account of the pandemic, the intrepid warriors of the Stuyvesant Chess team traveled on their own this past weekend to Orlando, Florida, for the 2021 National K-12 Grades Championship.
Seniors Ryan Chen, Alyson Chan, Adam Avnet and Rayat Roy led our 12th Grade team to first place in the nation, beating out the 2nd place team, Whitney Young High School of Chicago, by a full point.
Juniors Eugene Yoo, Ryan Lee and Benjamin Medina led our 11th Grade team to first place in the nation, beating out the 2nd place team, and local arch-rival, Columbia Grammar and Prep, by a full point.
Freshmen Kyle Lancman, Adi Murgescu, Christopher Louie and Kaleb Lancman led our 9th grade team to second place in the nation.
In the individual standings of the 12th Grade division, Ryan Chen placed 2nd in the nation and Alison Chan placed 11th.
In the individual standings of the 11th Grade Division, Eugene Yoo placed 10th in the nation.
In the individual standings of the 9th Grade Division, Kyle Lancman placed 8th in the nation.
Unfortunately Sophomores Charles Hua, Dylan Ma and Robert Shibata were unable to make it to Orlando. A top three finish for that team would have been likely.
Way to go Stuy!
