The weekend before the holiday break, Stuyvesant had 80 participants in various speech & debate tournaments1
Competing at three venues, two in person and one online, our Policy debaters, Lincoln Douglas, Parliamentary Debaters, Public Forum Debaters and Congressional Debaters had fun and achieved great success.
In Student Congress: We had 24 students at Regis HS, many of whom were novices. 8 of them were in the finals, and the top 6, four were from Stuy.
In PF we had teams competing at Stuy on Friday. 3 of them received State Qualifications.
And on Saturday at Regis, 5 of the 9 teams we sent had winning records.
In LD the varsity members came to judge for our novices. We had 9 teams compete and 6 of them had winning records, including 2nd and 4th place
Meanwhile at Dalton, 20 of our Parliamentary debaters attended the 2-day tournament.
We had 6 novice teams advance to eliminations and our Hybrid team in Varsity got to quarter finals.
Former Stuyvesant student (and Parliamentary debater) ran the tournament.
And finally, our online policy teams placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Our champions were also the 1st and 2nd speakers at the tournament.
The attached picture is our Congress team at Regis. Congrats to all the debaters and Coach, Julie Sheinman!
