Ms. Julie Sheinman shares that last weekend over 70 Speech and debate team members, alums, coaches and parents took part in the NYS Championship.
The team did extremely well, with dozens of students advancing to the elimination rounds including the Championship team in Novice PF . The team placed 2nd overall in Student Congress and we had 5 students advance to eliminations.
In Speech, we had 3 second place finishers, all of whom are returning next year-- in JV Oral Interp, Varsity Oral Interp and JV Extemp. On the policy debate side, both of our teams advanced to the eliminations rounds. Students advanced in Original Oratory, Declamation and Varsity Extemp. It is awesome that our students "hung in there" through a year of on-line competition Their commitment and enthusiasm were nothing short of amazing and we are in great shape for another year of live competition in the 2022-23 season.
Thanks to the PA, the Alumni Association, Principal Yu and the Administration, our coaches and of course, the team parents and alums who gave so much of their time and energy to keep us going through a very challenging year. The tradition continues!
