Stuyvesant girls brought home two second place trophies from the All-Girls National Chess Championships, held in Chicago April 4-6. After winning the Under 16 section two years running, our now Under 18 girls narrowly missed a third consecutive championship. Congrats to Hema Vikas, Simone Morden, Abigail Yang and Suhana Kumar. Shout out to Abigail who took first in the 1500-1799 category. Congratulations as well to Stuyvesant newcomers Aliana Fausto, Sophia Cao, and Yahli Efraim, who took second in this year's Under 16 section.
These titles follow State crowns in the open section of the 8th Annual New York State Girls Championship back in November of 2024. Well done, Aliana, Simone, and Hema! Stuyvesant Girls also topped the Under 1400 section thanks to Sophie Zhao, Rachel Prizant, and Manya Gutman.
Girls Chess at Stuyvesant is thriving, with unprecedented participation levels and competitive achievements from students. They are grateful for the generosity of the Parents Association, the Alumni Association, and the School Administration for defraying the costs of competition.
