Congratulations to three Stuyvesant students - Zhi Han (Anthony) Yao, Flint Mueller, and James Clare, who have created a cardboard packaging material called Kiriboard, which they hope will replace toxic plastics and reduce plastic waste in shipping. The geometric design, inspired by Japanese kirigami, provides sturdy, impact-absorbing protection, similar to bubble wrap, but without plastic.

Their innovation earned them the Earth Prize on April 8, 2025, along with a $12,500 award. The teens plan to use the prize money to refine their design, purchase a CNC router, and create more prototypes. They aim to pitch Kiriboard to major shipping companies like Amazon, FedEx, and Home Depot. Congratulations!!
