College Planning for JUNIORS - What to Expect from the College Office

JUNIOR FAMILIES:

Some of you are already thinking about your college application plans, here is a brief update/reminder about the college counseling program at Stuyvesant, which begins in just a few months.

  • The Class of 2021 College Handbook is ready! It is available to students and parents in Naviance accounts in "Document Resources", in the folder "College Office". The Chinese version will be available within a few weeks of the English version’s posting.
  • The College Office will begin to work with the Class of 2021 in February, at the start of the new term.  They kick off by hosting assemblies with junior English classes the week of February 10th, and junior parent night on Thursday, February 13th. Watch out for the email announcements/reminders.
  • College Counselors will begin to schedule individual and family appointments with their juniors in February. Meetings will begin late February and run through early June.  Students must add a parent to Naviance accounts before then, and regularly check email; don’t want to miss the chance to meet with your college counselor this spring. Family meetings are only offered this in the junior year.
  • The annual College Fair for junior families will be held on the evening of Thursday, April 30th, and will include representatives from more than 150 different institutions.  This is an event you don’t want to miss.  Save the date for now, and look out for the reminders later in the year.
  • We expect to run our annual Hidden Ivies panel and CUNY night in the spring term.  Details TBA.

The College Office looks forward to working with you next term.  Until then, they require your patience, as they must devote all of time during the fall term to the seniors…. next year, you’ll understand!
