College Office Message re: using stuy.edu email addresses on college apps

Seniors were emailed the following message from the College Office during the week of January 9, 2023:

We have become aware of several situations where college & university emails sent to students using stuy.edu addresses are undelivered/bouncing back, not even getting diverted to student junk/spam folders.  We do not yet have any explanation as to why this is happening. Staff members are working with Google to identify and hopefully resolve the issue.

But to be safe, please read the following and take action accordingly:

  • Each college to which you applied should soon email you with login information for their specific web portal.  If you have not received these emails from each college (check both your inbox and junk/spam folders) email them with a different email than your stuy.edu address so you can gain access to your portals.
  • If you have been experiencing this issue with any college, contact their admissions office and request that they change your preferred email to a different email than your stuy.edu.
  • While we did not receive any reports about this problem before winter break, we have received several over just the past few days.  We are concerned this could be a large scale issue. To be safe, we encourage ALL seniors to contact the admissions office of each college to which they applied and ask them to change your preferred email to a different email than your stuy.edu.  You might be able to do this through your college portals (if you already have access).

We apologize for the inconvenience.  Please direct any questions to your assigned college counselor:
