Civics Opportunities for Students in Summer 2021!

Apply for the YVote Summer ChangeMakers InstituteAre you interested in helping transform the political landscape? 2021 is an EPIC municipal election year in which we'll be voting for a new Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, Borough Presidents, two borough District Attorneys, and all 51 City Council Members, 35 with open seats. In other words, we have an unprecedented opportunity to help create the New York City we want to live in. But young people don't turn out in elections in the same numbers as older people do, diminishing youth collective power.  YVote aims to change that. If you are interested in being on the front lines of a youth social movement focused on creating change--and holding elected officials accountable--around issues you care about: criminal, climate, gender & LGBTQIA, healthcare & mental health, immigration, or racial justice, you should apply to YVote. Program meets over six weeks on Tuesday evenings, July 13-Aug 17, with a $150 stipend for full participation. Learn more at www.yvoteny.org/apply and apply directly at www.tinyurl.com/YVoteApp. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis through June 10.

Join the Next Generation Politics Summer Civic FellowshipAre you looking to deepen your knowledge, broaden your perspective, and engage in conversation with peers and experts about some of the most pressing civic issues of our time like: what would a just and equitable criminal justice system look like and how do we create it? Where is the line between free speech and hate speech? How do we ensure free and fair elections that enable all citizens to vote and have a voice? If so, apply for the six-week Next Gen Summer Civic Fellowship, which meets from Wed, July 14-Aug 18 from 4-6PM on Zoom. Further information here and application at www.tinyurl.com/NGPApp through June 18.
