On June 2nd, CIEE announced that it is suspending all summer study abroad programming:
After carefully monitoring the spread and government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, CIEE has decided to cancel all summer abroad program for 2020.
This was a very difficult decision to make, especially at a time where countries are slowly starting to reopen borders. Beyond the ability to travel, CIEE also had to evaluate how each program would need to be adapted to keep the experience safe, fun and engaging for all participants. And at this point, CIEE finds it wiser to suspend your program and focus on making it an awesome experience in summer 2021.
The good news is that your application and scholarship awards (if applicable) are still valid and fully transferable, so you can secure a spot right now on a program for next summer!
Next Steps:
Simply log into your application and update the “Program Disruption Form – COVID-19” task. It will give you the option to either defer your participation to summer 2021 or cancel your application and request a full refund for any tuition payments made to date. Note that refunds may take 4-6 weeks. If you’re deferring participation to summer 2021, you’ll have the opportunity to move back to your original program location. For example, if you were originally scheduled to join us in Madrid, Spain but transferred to the Yucatan, Mexico in the hopes of traveling this summer, you’re back on for Madrid in 2021.
