For the past decade, as part of the Most Powerful Women in Banking and Finance initiative, American Banker and Discover have been proud to present the Young Women's Leadership Award, a college scholarship given to graduating female high-school seniors who have demonstrated leadership qualities and are the first in their family to attend college. Each honoree receives $5,000 towards freshman-year tuition.
This year, we are particularly pleased to announce that we are doubling the number of our awards – usually given to two young women – to a total of four. The two additional awards are earmarked for Black female candidates specifically.
Applications will close on April 30th and the selected recipients will be asked to do a two-minute acceptance speech, aired during the virtual program at the annual NEXT conference in May; the YWLA recipients will be hosted on May 19th and the YBWLA recipients will be hosted on May 20th. The selected recipient MUST be available on their respective date in order to receive their award.
