Co-Founder & Executive Director and Stuy '20, Visshwaa Sofat shares a new initiative called Project NextGen that is partnering with local, state, and federal legislative offices across New York state and across the country to engage young people with the government. Stuyvesant is located in State Senate District 26, held by Senator Brian Kavanagh and Project NextGen is working with him and his office to engage students who live in the district with the government.
Since Stuy students live and/or attend school in District 26 they nay apply for the office's Youth Policy Cabinet. Students will work alongside peers, learning and engaging with Senator Kavanagh's legislative and community engagement staff to impact solutions and policies that impact their community. They will be provided the support of not only Senator Kavanagh's office, but that of our organization -- as we bring in guest speakers, panels, and host events to supplement students' work.
