Alumni Association Celebrate their First Gala Honoring Nobel Laureate Richard Axel and Julie Sheinman

<div> <p>Last week, the <strong>Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association</strong> hosted their <strong>Inaugural Benefit Gala </strong>at the Water Club. They honored <strong>2004</strong> <strong>Nobel Laureate, Dr. Richard Axel (Stuy ‘63) </strong>and <strong>Teacher Honoree, Ms. Julie Sheinman</strong> along with two other notable Stuy Alumni, <strong>Samantha Whitmore ’09</strong> and <strong>Nzingha Prescod '10</strong>. <a href="https://www.stuyalumni.org/events/2019-benefit-for-stuyvesant-high/">Read their bios</a> on the AA site. <strong>Principal Contreras</strong> gave the closing remarks to the evening’s festivities. Alumni across more than 50 years attended the event. Over $100,000 has already been raised. Trophies of the “<strong>Golden Pegleg</strong>” were designed by senior, <strong>Bill Ni</strong> and printed in our Innovation Lab. Students in 3d Graphic art classes along with <strong>Ms. Leslie Bernstein</strong> designed and printed the laser cut table place cards as well.
